Access Overview to Yellowstone Park

There are five entrances to Yellowstone National Park which makes access very easy. A Yellowstone vacation is the ultimate road trip. We recommend you enter and depart via different park entrances because each entrance offers a unique scenic drive. This region is full of scenic byways, attractions and western communities – all of which can be found en route to and from Yellowstone Park.

East Entrance
The East Entrance to Yellowstone is in Wyoming, and is located 56 miles West of Cody, Wyoming. Enter Yellowstone National Park's East Entrance by traveling Wy. Highway 14/16/20.

South Entrance
The South Entrance to Yellowstone National Park is in Wyoming and is accessed via Highways 191/89/287 North. Note that Grand Teton National Park, a 26-mile-long national park, is situated just two miles south of Yellowstone Park. (Entrance fees paid to enter Grand Teton National Park are effective for entry into Yellowstone National Park as well.)

West Entrance
The West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park is in Montana and is accessed by Highways 287, 87 or 20. West Yellowstone, Montana, is the nearest town to the park's West Entrance, located just a half-mile west of the West Entrance.

North Entrance
Enter Yellowstone National Park's North Entrance, in Montana, via Gardiner, Highway 89. The small town of Gardiner, Mont., marks the North Entrance of Yellowstone.

Northeast Entrance
Enter Yellowstone National Park's Northeast Entrance, in Montana, via Highways 212 or 291. Cooke City, Mont., is located approximately 2 miles from the Northeast Entrance.
