Old Yellowstone Highway

Old Yellowstone Highway Itinerary (512 miles)
This route follows the “Old Yellowstone Highway” so it’s a great travel route! Start at Sidney, Neb., home to Cabela’s, a great outdoor gear store with a most impressive animal display. Continue north to Bridgeport, then west to Torrington, Wyo. and Fort Laramie Historical Site. Plan some time at Ft. Laramie as it’s a wonderful resource. You’re following much of the historic Oregon and Mormon Trails along this route, so take in the historic attractions. Continue to I-25 and on to Douglas, Glenrock and Casper. At Casper, stop in and spend time at the National Historic Trails Center. Independence Rock is not far away. Pioneers traveling to Oregon, California, Utah and Pony Express riders  carrying the mail across the nation all knew Independence Rock as one of the  most important landmarks on their journey west. Many of the travelers left  their names on this rock, either carved or painted in axle grease. Continue to Shoshoni on Highway 20/26, then head to Riverton and to Dubois and over scenic Togwotee Pass to Grand Teton and Yellowstone parks.

Towns included on this itinerary:

Scottsbluff
Torrington
