Ride Hill City's 1880 Train through the Heart of the Black Hills
All Aboard!
Climb aboard the 1880 Train, a 2-hour, 20-mile scenic ride on a historic train that runs between Hill City and Keystone, S.D. Narrated for all ages, this train ride is really popular, so book online or call at least one week before you plan to ride to make reservations.
The train runs from early May through mid-October. See the schedule to find out when the diesel versus steam engines run. And remember, seating is first-come, first-served, so you may want to board earlier rather than last minute.
Create holiday memories aboard the 1880 Train’s Holiday Express. During the hour long, magical journey to the North Pole, passengers enjoy hot chocolate, sugar cookies and a festive atmosphere. Santa boards the train at the North Pole and presents each child with a special gift as he visits with them on the ride back to Hill City.
Seating for this popular event is assigned and advanced reservations are recommended in order to be seated with your group. For adult passengers, a Holiday Express Spiked ride on specific cars is available. This option includes spiked hot cocoa served in a keepsake thermal mug. Start a holiday tradition this year, with a unique ride on the 1880 Train in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
