Tatanka: Story of the Bison Near Mt. Rushmore

Learn about the Northern Plains peoples and the role bison have played in North America when you visit Tatanka: Story of the Bison.

Located in Deadwood, the interpretive center was founded by Kevin Costner who starred in the 1990 movie Dances with Wolves that was filmed in South Dakota and Wyoming. Along with exhibits and a Lakota interpretive presentation, there are Dances with Wolves movie costumes and the Sweetgrass Grill and Snack Bar.
