Sleeping Giant Ski Area and Zip Line near Yellowstone
Glide over snow or fly through the air near the park's East Entrance.
Located just 3.4 miles away from Yellowstone’s East Entrance, the family friendly Sleeping Giant Ski area (www.skisg.com) offers downhill skiing and snowboarding for all abilities with beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert terrain. Serviced by three lifts, this ski area is 50 miles west of Cody, Wyo. Snowboarders and skiers can enjoy the hill, taking a break for lunch at the ski hill’s lodge. The ski area also offers nordic skiing, snowshoeing and tubing.

In the summer, you can trade your skis for an entirely different experience. You can get rare views of Yellowstone National Park while literally flying through the air. Sleeping Giant Zip Line (www.zipsg.com) offers five zip lines, starting with the first one that brings you across the North Fork of the Shoshone River for a short test ride. Then tackle the next four zip lines, racing a partner, if you want, on dual zip lines and keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife like bears and bison off in the distance in the Shoshone National Forest.

For total adrenaline junkies, opt for the Quick Drop at the end that’s a freefall off a 35-foot platform. The Sleeping Giant Zip Line is usually open daily June 15-Sept. 15. Check the website for details.
