Stay on the gentle side of Montana between Yellowstone and Glacier National Park
Surrounded by three mountain ranges that are reassuringly grizzly-free, Lewistown, Mont., offers a gentler side of a state known for its wild side. It’s a perfect pit stop for families on an adventure, with hiking and biking trails, fishing and hunting at the town’s doorstep.
When you stay at The Calvert Hotel, you’ll feel that small-town, Montana feeling.
“Show up and you’re one of us,” says KellyAnne Terry, general manager.
You’ll notice the modern details like custom tile, Keurigs in the rooms and luxury bedding. The hot breakfast bar serves cinnamon rolls and a custom blend of coffee from local roaster, Rising Trout. But you’ll also feel the hotel’s historic charm from the moment you walk in.
“It’s historic juxtaposed against art deco,” Terry describes.
Built in 1917 as a dormitory for ranch children to stay in when they came to town for the school week, it became in a hotel in 1929. The friendly ghost of former owner, “Mrs. Marsh,” still keeps an eye on things today. She’s known to give the housekeepers a hard time but never bothers the guests.
