Pahaska Tepee Resort near Yellowstone’s East Entrance

Originally Buffalo Bill’s hunting lodge, the Pahaska Tepee Resort is the closest lodging to the park’s East Entrance at only 2 miles.
Why is it called Pahaska Tepee Resort if there aren’t any canvas and pole tepees for guests to sleep in? It comes from the Sioux nickname for Buffalo Bill – Pahaska (long hair) and the Sioux name for lodge – tepee. The original 1904 lodge is still standing and it is open for tours during the summer months.
Even though there aren’t any canvas tepees, the cluster of A-frame cabins does resemble a tepee village.
From the East Entrance, the closest town is Cody, 58 miles farther to the east. Avoid long drives and enjoy convenient access to Yellowstone by staying at this historic resort. Accommodations include lodging, a restaurant, a tavern, a gift shop, gas station, trail rides and facilities for reunions and large groups.
