There are few places in the West as magical as Yellowstone National Park in the winter and Bar N Ranch is the perfect choice for your winter stay. Located just six miles from Yellowstone’s West Entrance, this 200-acre ranch showcases southwest Montana’s beauty. The main lodge offers spacious traditional rooms each with its own fireplace, or you can stay in a private two, three or four bedroom cabin. The lodge’s décor gives off the traditional western lodge vibes with elk antlers, wooden beams, stone fireplaces and leather touches.
The South Fork of the Madison River flows through the property, which transforms into a winter wonderland upon the season’s first snow. Borrow a pair of complimentary snowshoes from the lodge to explore the property where you’ll meet rescue horses and perhaps some local wildlife such as foxes, pronghorn antelope and more. Cross-country skiing is also available on property.
While it may seem sacrilegious to leave the stunning property, nearby Yellowstone National Park awaits. Join a snow coach or snowmobile tour in West Yellowstone to head into the park to see wildlife, geysers, waterfalls and more.
At the end of the day, warm up next to your room’s fireplace before heading to dinner in the Ranch’s dining room. Dishes like trout fritters, harvest root vegetables and bison short ribs highlight the land on which you’re dining. Don’t forget the complimentary s’mores around the campfire at the end of the night.
Looking to visit in the summer months instead? Bar N is open May 13 – Oct. 10, 2021, for the summer/fall season and is a great basecamp for all your summer adventures. Fly fish on property, horseback ride nearby or head into the national park by car to explore for the day before coming back in the evening to relax. In the summer months, the Bar N property is also home to Under Canvas Yellowstone, a luxury glamping experience.
