Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins in Yellowstone

Built in 1999, Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins in Yellowstone is the park’s newest full-service hotel. It was designed to follow the “parkitecture” style, using natural building materials to blend into its environment. Its flanked by log columns and protected by a cedar shingle roof.

You can dine in its full-service dining room, enjoy fast service in the Geyser Grill and purchase a souvenir at the Bear Den Gift Store. Then head out and explore the park.

Winter Season

Mid December to Early March

Anyone up for a trip to a winter wonderland? If so, then the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins are the perfect destination.

During the snowy colder months, all roads leading to the lodge are covered by the fluffy white of winter making the hotel only accessible by commercially operated over-snow vehicles like snowmobiles and snowcoaches. And because the lodge and cabins are so isolated, it’s a rare chance to explore Yellowstone in a way few ever do.

The Snow Lodge’s lobby is a perfect winter retreat where you can sip a hot beverage and warm yourself by a roaring fire.

Nearby Winter Activities

• Be sure to visit the Upper Geyser Basin where steaming geysers, Old Faithful among them, erupt amidst a frozen landscape.
• Take a snowcoach ride over to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River to see the frozen Lower Falls.
• Rent cross-country skis and glide your way through the wilderness along one of the many trails suited for varying ability levels.
• Rent snowshoes and tromp along one of those same trails.

Summer Season

Early May to Mid October

In warmer months, the lodge welcomes visitors who want a more remote experience and private environment than the Old Faithful Lodge Cabins or Old Faithful Inn offers. It is the newest hotel in the park, built in 1999, so its amenities are modern and convenient for today’s traveler.

• Swing by the Visitor Center to learn more on Yellowstone wildlife, geography and history
• Visit Old Faithful to see the world-renowned geyser.
• Go for a hike. We suggest the flat, easy route out to Morning Glory Pool (2.8 miles round trip), which starts at the Old Faithful Visitor Center. If you’re looking for a longer trip, head out to Fairy Falls (5 miles round trip). This moderate-to-easy hike takes travelers up onto the hillside where they can get a full view of the Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring in Yellowstone, and all of its fantastic colors. Be sure to bring a camera!

Obsidian Dining Room

When you get hungry, head to the Obsidian Dining Room, which serves a breakfast and dinner. The hearty supper menu includes favorites like bison short ribs and wild Alaskan salmon. Seating is given on a first-come, first-served basis, and there’s no need to dress up. Attire is casual.

• Breakfast Buffet: 6:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
• Dinner: 5:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Firehole Lounge

Be sure to swing by the Firehole Lounge, located just off from the Obsidian Dining Room, to relax in the cozy chairs and sit by the fireplace. If time is short, then the Geyser Grill is the spot for you. You’ll love their speedy service and tasty burgers. And don’t forget to stop by the Bear Den Gift Store to grab a gift for grandma and a souvenir to remember your trip!

Accommodations

Lodge rooms feature western-inspired lodge-style furnishings with full bathrooms, telephones, coffee makers, refrigerators and hair dryers. Handicap accessible rooms are also available.

Western cabins are situated in groups of four. Built in 1989, these spacious cabins each house two queen-sized beds and a full bathroom. Handicap accessible cabins are also available.

Frontier cabins are a bit more rustic with a shower, toilet and sink.
